LIIFE GOES ON! The 23rd Annual Long Island International Film Expo to Show Virtual and Drive-In Movies, September 30 - Oct 8, 2020

The Long Island International Film Expo (LIIFE) is the premiere filmmaker community on Long Island, and one of the most respected festivals of its kind in the world; showing almost 200 short and feature-length films in many different genres each year. Sponsored by the Long Island Film-TV Foundation (LIFTF), the County of Nassau, the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency and Gold Coast Studios, this year the 23rd Annual installment will be held from September 30th - October 8th 2020 and will include two nights of drive-in movies on Friday October 2nd and Saturday October 3rd at 7 PM and 10 PM the at Samanea Mall, 1504 Old Country Rd, Westbury NY. This year, LIIFE’s films will also be shown virtually and will feature films from around the globe.







The Long Island International Film Expo will also be honoring Port Jefferson’s own Maurice DuBois, the Emmy award winning news anchor for WCBS-TV in NY, who will be awarded the LIIFE “Excellence in Newscasting” Award. Actress Katherine Narducci (The Irishman) will be honored with an “Excellence in Film and TV” Award and Director Jeremiah Kipp (Grave Discoveries) will be honored with a “Creative Achievement Award”. The ceremony, including appearances by presenters like Kevin Brown (30 Rock) and Brian O’ Hallaran (Clerks) will be held virtually for participating filmmakers, sponsors, honorees and Gold Pass Holders during the virtual closing ceremony on Thursday October 8th at 7:30 p.m. EST.













Perhaps, COVID-19 willing, the Festival will be able to present something special at their usual home for the past 22 years - the historic Bellmore Movies, 222 Pettit Ave, Bellmore, NY - as well! Check the website for updates.

Chris Jack of The Routes ditches his fuzzy 60s psych-garage rippers to drop stunning solo-acoustic debut

Mark E. Smith once said, “The Fall is me and your gran on bongos” (or something along those lines). Undergoing numerous member changes, Chris Jack has led The Routes for 14 years. The albums “In This Perfect Hell” and “Dirty Needles and Pins” could have been classified as solo albums, where the “band” was just Chris, and drummer Jonathan Hillhouse. On the last Routes album “Tune Out, Switch Off, Drop-In”, Chris was joined by English drummer and old friend Bryan Styles (with whom he briefly played in a post-rock band at age 18). Whilst working on the album, Chris was playing around with some acoustic song ideas. He sent demo recordings to a few friends. Action Weekend Records said “Let’s make an album!”, Bryan came in on drums, percussion and glockenspiel and “ Miles To Go” was born! What? No fuzz!? That’s right! Peter Jackson has shared a new preview of his forthcoming documentary about The Beatles, The Beatles: Get Back. The Lord of the Rings director is overseeing the new film, which has already had its release date moved from 2020 to August 27, 2021 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, which aims to “take audiences back in time to The Beatles’ intimate recording sessions during a pivotal moment in music history”. A preview clip of Get Back has been released today (December 21) to tide fans over until its summer release next year. The video begins with Jackson explaining that he and his production team in New Zealand have resumed work on the film after the coronavirus outbreak was largely contained in the country, with editing of the 56 hours of never-before-seen footage currently ongoing.
